1v1 weekly ladder balancing
Masse
Hello, right now the weekly ladder is dominated by 24/7 players which reflects on the quantity of the gaming but not on the quality. There are numerous ways to change it in favor of quality and skill ... e.g
#1 restrict the ladder games per day to 5 games/day
#2 only count the best series of 25 successive games of a player for ladder ranking .. so the best winning streak of 25 games will be used to determine the rank on weekly ladder ... in this case players could still play 24/7 and might benefit from having more trys on optimizing their win series - but casual players with high skill can still compete in a better way than right now.
cheers,
Masse
PS: and of course wins done with techie as hero should count twice (trolling) :D

if you are talking about " reflects on the quantity of the gaming but not on the quality. "
then restricting games is not the answer.
the answer is
win + 10ladder points
lose -10 ladder points
you cannot prevent people who play longer than you to restrict their games.
its just that they prioritize playing in firstblood platform :)
if you want to get to the ladder ranking, then prioritize it as well :)

Julius Rome Maquinto: well ... I'm a 5 Star Legend player . only playing Techies ... but that said ... I'm also a CEO of a software company and dad of 2 children ... so my time (however I prioritize it) wont be able to compete with a 14years old kid who gets fed by his parents and has nothing to do but being toxic on dota :P

Julius Rome Maquinto: So basically what you are proposing is to replace the ladder with an MMR. So the player who can earn the most MMR points over the course of a week wins.
That's interesting, but still rewards players who grind far more than casual players.

Auryn Macmillan | Community Director - FirstBlood:
so make it
win + 10
lose - 5 points
It will still reward players who grind far more than casual players, at the same time it will be quality > quantity gaming :)

Julius Rome Maquinto: I think what you're suggesting rewards quality + quantity. Which is roughly the same as what we have now.
Whereas Masse is suggesting that we should come up with a game mode that purely rewards quality.

I like the basis for both suggestions - one of the things we are definitely going to do is to bring more modes to the ladder and have multiple ladders running at the same time. For instance, SF mid only Ladder, Ladder with power users only or ladder with limited tries.

Joe, CEO @ FirstBlood.io: Sounds like a plan ... get the traffic! :D

ok, techies wins will give 2x ladder points from now on. kappa
Masse thanks for the suggestions! I really like option #2, sounds like it could work really well.
I wonder what the optimal number of games would be?
Masse
Auryn Macmillan | Community Director - FirstBlood: try ... the optimal number could depend on many influences ... one of them could be the traffic on firstblood in general ... right now I could easyly find a time slot during night to play 25 games against the same opponent .. maybe a friend and then win 25 times
